Before You Install Symantec AntiVirus 10.2

  1. Before you install Symantec AntiVirus, uninstall any existing anti-virus software on your Windows computer using the Add/Remove Programs Control Panel
  2. Once you remove the AntiVirus software, Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) and above will warn you that the computer is at risk; ignore these messages as you will be installing soon.

Installation

  1. Select Windows Version
    Find your proper version by right-clicking on the "My Computer" Icon and selecting Properties.  Your version of windows will be shown under Windows Edition
    1. Windows XP and 2000
    2. Windows Vista
    3. Windows XP (x64)
    4. Windows Vista (x64)
  2. Enter your network ID (example: sw8888888) and password.
  3. If asked to run or save this file, click Save.
  4. Choose your Desktop as the save in location for the file. Click Save.
  5. Once downloaded, double-click the executable to begin install

Install and Update Symantec AntiVirus 10.2

  1. Open the installer file and let it guide you through the installation; we have preconfigured the software to install with little user interaction.
  2. Before continuing verify that the version is correct then press any key to continue.

     

  3. Open Symantec AntiVirus by right clicking on the Symantec AntiVirus Client icon (see belollow) in the lower right corner of the screen and then left click Open Symantec AntiVirus.

     
  4. Click the LiveUpdate button and follow the on-screen directions

Schedule Automatic Updates

  1. Right Click on the Symantec AntiVirus Client icon ( see below, looks like a Yellow Shield) in the lower right corner of the screen and then Left Click on the words Open Symantec AntiVirus.

  2. From the File menu choose Schedule Updates.
  3. The Enable scheduled automatic updates box should be checked.
  4. Click the Schedule button.
  5. Select the frequency, day and time that you want the virus definitions to be updated
    • IT recommends that you choose a Frequency of DAILY. The default Fridays at 8:00 PM
    • Using the advanced button you can setup options to handle missed events
  6. Click OK. Click OK. Click OK.

Schedule Automatic Scans

  1. Open the Symantec AntiVirus Client
  2. From the Edit menu choose New Scheduled Scan.
  3. Select the Full Scan radio button. Click Next.
  4. Enter a name for the Scan, such as Scan HD Full.
  5. Click Next.
  6. Select a scan frequency, such as Weekly or Monthly.
    • For a Full Scan, IT recommends you do a Monthly HD scan.
  7. Select an appropriate time.
    When the frequency is Weekly, enter a day of the week and time for the scan to occur.
    When the frequency is Monthly, enter a day of the month (1-28) and time for the scan to occur..
  8. Click the Advanced Button.
  9. To ensure that scheduled update that are missed run at a later time, check the box for Handle missed events within and set the number of days
  10. For Weekly Scans, IT recommends that you enter 1 hours.
    For Monthly Scans, IT recommends that you enter 20 day.
  11. Click OK.
  12. Click Next. Click Options. Click Advanced (top right corner).
  13. Be sure that there is a check in the Close Scan progress when done box.
  14. Click OK. Click Save Settings. Click OK.
  15. Click Save.

    NOTE: You may create additional scans if desired.
     
  16. If you're finished, click Exit to close Symantec AntiVirus.
