Howto: Spybot Search & Destroy

Install
Spybot Search & Destroy is available on this CD.  Read the software agreements and install the software in the default location.
Notice: Spybot S&D has been upgraded to version 1.04, please be sure you install this new version.

NOTE: SDHelper can prevent some spyware from infecting your computer, but can also interfere with applications you try to install. Please be careful if you choose to install this feature.



First Run
Click OK for the legal and compatibility screens and click until you reach the screen below:

Now click "Start using the program"

Update
Click the Search for Updates button

Check all the boxes next to the available updates and click Download Updates

NOTE: If no newer updates are available be sure to continue. Spybot S&D will detect and remove pieces of spyware that may have been missed by other programs. After your network connection has been repaired you can update Spybot S&D and do another full scan for the latest spyware.

After updating, Spybot S&D may restart to use the latest updates.

Scan
Click the Search & Destroy button and then the Check for problems button

When Spybot S&D has finished scanning click the Fix selected problems button. Click Yes to the confirmation box

Immunize (optional)
After Spybot S&D finishes removing spyware you may want to immunize your computer.  Click the Immunize button in the left window, then the Immunize button on the right window.

Maintenance
It is a good idea to run Spybot Search & Destroy periodically on your computer. Every time you run the program, be sure to click Update to get the latest reference file to remove the most recent spyware.

*Programs such as KaZaA, Gnutella, Morpheus, DirectConnect, etc are often bundled with spyware.  Removing the spyware often cripples these programs.
