 Wireless Access Point

Information Technology allows students to setup wireless access points in their room as long as they do not cause problems for other users. Be sure to plug the WAN port into the wall; your port may be disabled if the AP is not properly installed.

Wireless access points must use security features to keep unauthorized users from using the connection. You are responsible for all access coming from the device. Information Technology will be performing routine scans to make sure access points are not left open; offending users will be contacted and instructed to secure their access point. Read your product documentation to learn how to setup secure access.

Information regarding how to securely setup a access point or router will be posted in the future.

Notes

  • 802.11B/G share the same radio range with 2.4Ghz cordless telephones. You may experience problems with the access point or the telephone if they are within range.
  • Electrical devices such as microwaves, televisions, elevators, computers, monitors, etc may cause unwanted interference.
  • Information Technology cannot support your connection if you are not plugged directly into the orange port on the wall
  • Wireless access for all SAU users with a valid username and password is available in the Rogalski Center
